After several wild and flowing layers of paint, I added the illustrations while sitting on the front porch with my kids (during homeschool observations). All of the botanical motifs were inspired by plants growing on the land around my home in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The feather was the final touch inspired by the hawk that flew over while I was working on it. I looked up hawk spirit medicine and it had to do with vision. The title was inspired by the ferns that I love to watch unfurl. This is part of the "Growing Season" collection of paintings. This is the kind of painting that doubts may have prevented me from showing or letting be in the past. It's rather raw and very playful, yet also deep in symbolism and vitality. Making boat loads of paintings has helped me to trust my touch and tastes (at least most of the time).
