Exploring Playful Patterns, Composition, & Co-Creating for the Year in Color Summit

I’ve found sharing what inspires us and fun ways to explore that through creativity to be a healthy and enriching practice. Filling the well of nourishment and good vibes can help to carry us through more challenging situations. Participating in communities with kindred spirits can also be nurturing and encouraging.

I’m so glad that I’m able to enjoy and appreciate the beauty around and within me most of the time! And, that I can share it in offerings like the Year in Color Collaborative Offering hosted by Creative U. This is the second year that I’ve been able to contribute as a guest presenter. I’m so grateful for all the artists and mentors that have helped to fan the flames throughout my creative journey and I’m delighted to be able to pass it on in this way.

Larissa Russell of Creative U invited me to join her in the 2022-2023 Year of Color Summit. Larissa and I together with several other presenters have created an amazing online experience for you, a full year of creativity, inspiration, and color. Each week a new session is delivered to you, and you get lifetime access, plus a community to share with.

The theme for my first session is about Playful Patterns.

For my second session I expand upon the inspiration, ideas, and explorations from the patterns to go Beyond the Edges. We compose with a tile style across multiple pieces to mix it up. Change perspectives to explore and expand upon your vision while creating a harmonious series. Design a set of coordinating stencils to use your original art in many different ways again and again.

The stencils that I made in the video tutorial are infused with abstract, botanical, and nautical inspiration.

I may have gone a bit overboard, yet it was such fun and resulted in some practical home decor items as well! I used coasters for the series so that they can be used, rearranged, and enjoyed in the living room rather than inside a journal or on a wall. This was a wonderful way to experiment with composition and repeating patterns beyond the edges of a single piece or screen!

Participants in some of my other offerings have shared these Kind Words:

“This has been the best use of my money and time in a long time!” ~ Joanne

“You are especially gifted at voicing your inner narrative which is so helpful.” ~ Jenna

“I would now like to repeat it because I enjoyed it so much!” ~ Madeleine

We’d love to have you JOIN US for A Year in Color to make your own series and celebrate your creativity along with many artist guides and other participants from all around the world.

Thank You to all who have enjoyed my offerings. Did you know that your financial exchanges and donations help to plant trees every year on our small homestead in the ancient Appalachian Mountains? Your support also helps to maintain a small woodland sanctuary for wildlife, which is becoming more important as many rural areas like this are being cleared and converted to subdivisions (and property taxes have increased drastically). Here’s to mutually beneficial and symbiotic support. You are deeply appreciated!
