Inktoberfest ~ Unboxing & Wabi-Sabi Art Demo with Alcohol Inks for Inktober & Octoberfest ~ Part 3 of 4 Part Series (Art Tutorial)

Welcome and thank you for spending this short visit with me. I hope you enjoy this twist on Inktober and Oktoberfest combined for Inktoberfest. This is part 3 of a 4 part series. Each week this month, I’m unboxing a new set of alcohol inks and creating various mixed media art demo projects. You may wish to subscribe to Thrive True with Jules on youtube to see each video when it is released. You can find the supply list at the end of this post.

The painting in this video flowed forth with such ease, joy, and a peaceful, elegant kind of simplicity. This sort of wabi-sabi style and approach to the creative process is a wonderful way to invite, honor, or embody those energies while appreciating the beauty of imperfections.

What title would you give to the painting created in the video? The first thought I had for a title was “Let us Play” inspired by a pun like take on the ink color named lettuce and the idea of prayer before a meal or in a temple with the invitation: “let us pray.” The next thought for a title was inspired by the process, the simplicity, and the Kung Fu Panda movie that I recently watched with my son. He had to write a paper for his college world religion course referencing the movie. The title that came to me is “The Secret Ingredient.” Have you seen the movie and do you know what the secret ingredient is? I think that is the title that I’m going to stick with for this one. It also reminds me of the Italian phrase that is featured in the “Eat, Pray, Love” movie about the sweetness of doing nothing. All of these titles feel appropriate and nourishing to me.

These are examples of what can be created with just a few supplies, a playful spirit, and a moment to explore the beauty within and around you. If you choose to make something inspired by this or anything else for Inktober, you can share in a group for co-creative artists. We’d love to see your creations!

I made another painting (pictured below) with a bit more ink and layers after the first one that will be featured in a new offering about ink art. It was inspired by all that I’ve been learning in these explorations and expanding upon that. You can see more about it at ThriveTrue.com/Inktastic. Projects include abstract, batik, botanical, and impressionist energy art. They are all infused with reverence, wonder, and good vibes.
