Art of Gratitude * Featured Artist Interview * Lucy Brydon

So thrilled to be Celebrating Life & the Art of Gratitude with 8 other lovely artists.

I’ll be featuring an interview and info about each artist’s creative projects leading up to the start of the e-course on October 4th.  Lucy Brydon is today’s featured artist and has the joy of offering the content and projects for the second week of the course.

Fellow contributing artist, Lara Cornell, set up the following interview questions and these are Lucy’s replies.

Lara: What are you most grateful for?

Lucy: I am grateful for my friends and family and most importantly my wonderful son who is now a teenager but went through so much to be here, being born 3 months premature. Every day I thank the universe that he is here and well and thriving (even now that he is a grumpy teenager!)

I suffer from a long term health condition so am also grateful for my healthy days! I think you appreciate feeling good when you can’t take it for granted that you will all the time, and make the most of the good days to do as much as I can, travelling, walking, hanging out with friends, going away in my cute 1950’s caravan… I am grateful that I live in the western world with access to good healthcare, here in the 21st century! There are so many living in the world today that would not be as fortunate as me and I am always thankful for that. I am also grateful for the little things, my love of art which provides such joy in my life, living in such a beautiful country, the wonders of light and clouds in the sky as I drive around my local area.

Lara: How do you prefer to show your gratitude?  (Eg: do you have any traditions?)

Lucy: I wouldn’t say I have any particular traditions for showing gratitude, but like to go out in the evening and look at the stars and moon, sit by campfires with friends or walk through the woods and take stock of things in my head.

Lara: What are your favorite fall season traditions?

Lucy: I come from Scotland, we don’t celebrate thanksgiving like you do in the states, but I do love halloween and the autumn equinox, carving pumpkins and making costumes! I do love a good costume! Visiting local stone circles is another thing I like to do regularly.

Lara: Do you have any favorite fall season art/crafts/etc…

Lucy: Well! I am an art teacher for primary school aged children so when Autumn/fall comes I can’t wait to go out and collect leaves! We usually spend several weeks making art with these as inspiration! I love walking through the woods at this time of year, the colours and smells and lighting are amazing. I also like to do photography and get so much inspiration at this time of year.

Lara: Why did you decide to be part of this group of artists for this project?

Lucy: I am so excited and honored to be part of this group of artists for this project! As artists we can inspire and grow from each other and learn from each other too! They are such a kind, caring and supportive group of ladies and being part of an artist community is one of the best things in the world!

Week 2 * Finding gratitude in nature with Lucy Brydon Oct. 11-17th

Finding gratitude in nature: a monoprinting journey using nature’s bounty.

Lucy Brydon will be teaching you how to create monoprints using natural and found objects, added to with hand cut stencils. We shall be using a gelli plate although purchase of this is not necessary for the class as we shall explore alternative ways of making prints. We shall then use these as a spring board for a mixed media piece adding details with other media.

I am personally so looking forward to doing Lucy’s projects along with the course participants.  I adore her magical prints and am so excited to learn her techniques!  I’m also adding a caravan like Lucy’s to my wish list! 😉

Every one is invited and welcome to join us to creatively celebrate life through the art of gratitude!  No prior art experience is necessary.  The course content will be available for a full 6 months so plenty of time to play and explore all the great projects!  Want to experience the fun and magic of creativity and the joy that an attitude of gratitude nurtures in your life?!  Know someone that would appreciate the gift of gratitude and creativity?  We’d be so very grateful to have you and your friends join us here. <3

Lucy Brydon is an artist and art teacher with over 10 years experience living in the north east of Scotland. She regularly teaches children and adults in various art forms including mixed media, collage,  painting and drawing.  Her main love is monoprinting using a gelatin plate.  “I love to create layers and texture in my work using natural materials and hand cut stencils.  I am inspired by nature,  the beautiful landscapes and light we have here in Scotland,  and the interesting and quirky nature of old buildings,  doorways and castles.  My work can sometimes transform these elements into illustrative pieces, inspired by old book images, folklore and fairytales. At other times they reflect the beauty that is abound in nature.” Lucy is currently developing a series of Gelli plate lessons that will be available in the near future,  both in person and hopefully online!
